New Materials

What: Symmetry Wood makes 100% biobased wood from food waste to replace unsustainable materials, especially endangered tropical hardwood driving logging in the rainforests.

Tell me more: Using bacterial nanocellulose, which is very similar to the cellulose essential to tree-derived wood. It can be gathered as waste from kombucha breweries, or generated from other types of organic waste.

Vision: With their new wood, Pyrus™, Symmetry aims to help end the 2.1 billion tons of CO2 emissions from rainforest degradation and safeguard the third of tree species at risk of extinction.

What: Urban nature for public health and climate resilience.

Tell me more: Specializing in scalable urban greening, Plantaer creates first-of-their-kind carbon-negative architectural products, unlocking new green spaces by enabling passive plant growth on buildings and roads.

Vision: Plantaer is on a mission to create biodiverse cities where we breathe clean air, enjoy balanced temperatures, and live harmoniously with nature.

Transport

What: OX Delivers is supercharging trade for the global south, enabling entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes to get paid and grow their businesses.

Tell me more: Slow, expensive transport is stifling trade in the global south. To solve this, OX Delivers has built the world’s first purpose-designed electric truck, which is 10x cheaper to operate than existing alternatives. Transport is offered as-a-service to businesses, all of which is enabled by OX's proprietary digital platform. They’ve proven the model in Rwanda with $1.7m revenue generated to date, over 1m KMs driven and 35,000+ loads delivered for 5,000+ businesses.

Vision: Fix transport, enable trade and create wealth for the global south.
